Freedom Isn’t Free

Most of us get tomorrow off in observance of Independence Day.

Otherwise known as National Day Drinking and Fireworks Day.

I’m lucky enough to have the next five days off.

That’s right folks – five whole days off – in a row!

Coincidentally the majority of those who spend their lives defending our freedoms do NOT have the day off.

So today’s post is a reminder that the rights and freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States aren’t free.

A little perspective…

They can’t call in sick on Monday, when the weekend’s been too strong.

The battle doesn’t end when you come home.

I dare you to read this and not cry.

Honor our fallen.

Get involved.

Did you know??

An E4, Corporal, Specialist, Petty Officer Third Class, or Senior Airman, earns approximately $25,000 a year.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase, earns $23 million this year, despite reporting a $2 billion trading loss.

All personal political/religious beliefs aside, if you’re lucky enough to run into a soldier tomorrow (or any day) say thank you; give them a hug, buy ’em a beer, whatever.

Just show them their sacrifices are acknowledged and appreciated.

Coming from a military family this topic means a lot to me.

3 out of 4 of these people have served in the military. Can you guess who??

Not sure?

I’ll help you out…

3 out of 4 people in this photo served in the military. Hint: it’s not me!

A great big Thank You to; my super awesome parents, my bad-ass little brother, my smart-ass Uncle Chris, my grandfathers, Aunt Paula, Cousin Sue, Bernie, Jason, Jose, Hardy, and the countless others I’ve never even met. May your beer be ice cold and your fireworks non-fatal!

Since tomorrow starts my mini-vacation, I’ll be taking a short sabbatical from blogging. Don’t worry! Your regularly scheduled programming will be back next week 🙂

Happy Fourth of July!
